King Og was a powerful Amorite king mentioned in the Bible, known for his immense size and strength. He ruled over Bashan, a fertile region east of the Jordan River. Og is most notably remembered for his defeat at the hands of Moses and the Israelites during their journey to the Promised Land (Deuteronomy 3:1-11, Numbers 21:33-35). He was the last of the Rephaim, a group of giants, and his iron bed is described as being over 13 feet long, emphasizing his extraordinary stature. Og’s defeat symbolized God’s power and faithfulness in granting victory to the Israelites over formidable enemies.
In Deuteronomy 3, Moses tells the story of how God helped the Israelites win a big battle against King Og, a very tall and strong man who was the king of Bashan. King Og was known as one of the last giants, and he even had a huge iron bed that was 13 feet long! But God told Moses and the Israelites not to be afraid because He would help them win. With God’s help, they defeated King Og and took over his land.
Moses then reminds the people how God gave this land to some of the Israelite tribes so they could live there. He also tells Joshua, the new leader, to be brave because God will help him lead the people and win other battles, just like He did with King Og. This chapter shows how powerful God is and how He keeps His promises to help His people.
